GERMANTOWN, Md -- Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein has announced the award of a $308 million, six year contract to Lockheed Martin to build the Electronic Records Archives (ERA) system for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Fenestra will serve as a subcontractor on the ERA system.
After a yearlong design competition, Lockheed Martin was chosen to build the archives of the future based on the technical merit of the solution it proposed, the excellence of their system and software engineering methodology, and the quality of their project management. Lockheed Martin also demonstrated that it understood the intricacies of NARA's responsibilities in the field of record-keeping.
During the Architecture and Design Phase, Fenestra Technologies' staff led the design team that produced the System Architecture and Design (SADD), and the design team that produced the winning prototype, using the Capability Maturity Model® Integration, Level 5 engineering process.
"Across many of our programs, we have found there are niche subcontractors that excel in bringing specialized skills to a program. On NARA's ERA program, Fenestra provides key metadata and archival capabilities needed in developing foundational elements for the electronic archives of the future," said Lockheed Martin's ERA Program Director Clyde Relick.
Rick Rogers, Fenestra's President, says, "I have been truly blessed to play a key role in the project that aligns my technical professional interests with my true passion for history. Fenestra is deeply honored to be part of the team entrusted to design and develop ERA, which is vital to preserving our national experience in the digital age."
Lockheed Martin Chief Engineer Steve Hansen emphasized the “Fenestra staff demonstrated a strong set of engineering skills instrumental in developing and proving the feasibility of the system design."
