GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, USA - Fenestra Technologies Corporation recently joined
the Corporate
Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC-MC)
,
an organization providing corporate volunteer programs that match the resources
and knowledge of businesses with the needs of nonprofit and public agencies
serving local residents.
The CVC-MC has many volunteer projects for businesses that care about the community and want to lend a hand. Each business selects a volunteer project based on interest, time, and available resources. Then CVC-MC coordinates the event, bringing business volunteers and beneficiaries together.
"I believe corporations should play a role in promoting their communities through charitable contributions and volunteering," says Rick Rogers, President of Fenestra Technologies. "This year, to back up this ideal with action, we are starting a program where Fenestra staff can volunteer up to a day per quarter for charitable work."
To this end, Fenestra joined CVC-MC, and chose to participate in a volunteer program called Bethesda Cares that provides lunch to homeless people and the working poor. On February 17, 2000, at Bethesda Christ Lutheran Church, five Fenestra staff members assisted with setting up, signing in clients, serving food and drinks, and cleaning up afterward. They served nearly sixty people.
Lisa Arant, Fenestra's Office Manager, said of the project, "It was a wonderful and mind-opening experience, and we're looking forward to returning!"
Fenestra staff members are scheduled to volunteer for the same program three more times this year. By supporting programs like this, Fenestra exemplifies a cooperative spirit that will help make its community a better place to live and work.
