GERMANTOWN, Maryland, USA - The newest issue of GSAs Office of Intergovernmental Solutions features an article titled Digitizing the US Census Bureau Using eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML), by Fenestras Chief Technology Officer, Steven Schafer, Ph.D.
In this piece, I focus on the whys and hows of using XML for the 2002 Economic Census - a massive data collection, capture and sharing initiative (650 surveys, 10-12 page/each) with 5 million businesses responding. Using XML as the basis for data interchange helps to insure that the information remains accessible and transportable as Census IT systems change over time, according to Dr. Schafer.
This newsletter explores how federal state, local and international governments are using XML to help facilitate Citizen-Centered E-government, with 28 articles from academia, IT associations and businesses. See http://www.gsa.gov/intergov
