Fenestra Receives Award to Digitize
2002 U.S. Economic Census

GERMANTOWN, Maryland, USA - The U.S. Census Bureau has awarded Fenestra Technologies Corporation a $500,000 contract to design and create software that will build more than 650 electronic surveys for 2002 Economic Census respondents.

This reporting software will allow data collection and processing to proceed faster and with greater accuracy than ever before, while reducing the cost of this effort at the same time. It will help the Bureau provide rapid access to accurate data that affects Congressional and Presidential policy decisions, and businesses will be able to choose paper or electronic means of responding to these lengthy surveys.

According to Census, electronic reporting will be offered to the 5 million companies canvassed as part of the 2002 Economic Census. The software will simplify the process of collecting and capturing huge amounts of content, and extracting, analyzing and presenting it in a variety of forms across multiple paper and online channels.

Key features include the specialty applications Fenestra built and integrated into Census' metadata repository, using XML (Extensible Markup Language) - a pioneering use of this technology at the Bureau. Content, presentation and behavior components are separated, simplifying data reuse across both paper and electronic media.

Census has retained Rick Rogers, CEO, since 1993, to help modernize the Economic Directorate.
